Further Information on Florence

Florence has some sectacular night time views making dinning out in the city very romantic. Due to the many popular places around this city you have quite a large choice of restaurants and bars.

Whilst staying in Florence, you may want to try some of the national dishes in Italy of which the Florentine food grows from a tradition of 'peasant food' rather than rarefied 'high cooking'. The majority of dishes are based on meat where the whole animal was traditionally eaten.

Antipasti include crostini toscani which is sliced bread topped with a chicken liver-based pâté, sliced meats (mainly prosciutto and salami) which are often served with melon. Florentine’s famous soups such as Ribollita and Pappa al Pomodoro served with typical Tuscan bread.

Panzanella is a salad of bread and fresh vegetables and is served in the summer season. The most famous Florentine main course is the bistecca alla fiorentina. This is a large T-bone steak of Chianina beef cooked over hot charcoal and served very rare. Most of these dishes are served with the customary ’olive oil’.

All of these dishes go well with a glass of Italy's fabulous wines but don't forget that when out eating and drinking you are only allowed 0.05% alcohol limit in your blood before it is classed as drink driving. It maybe best to leave your Florence hire car at your hotel and catch a taxi - just to be on the safe side!
